Would you like to play a vital role in the Prince George Symphony Orchestra?          

With the help of dedicated volunteers, the Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) offers audiences an impressive variety of concerts and events featuring artists from across British Columbia. Volunteers who contribute their time, energy, experience, and passion for music are indispensable to the smooth operation of the Prince George Symphony Orchestra.

 

Who are we?

PGSO is a professional orchestra based in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. It is a community-based orchestra that performs a variety of classical and popular music concerts throughout the year. The PGSO is comprised of talented musicians and is dedicated to bringing live orchestral music to the residents of Prince George and the surrounding regions. Like many orchestras, the PGSO plays a significant role in the cultural life of the community. It often collaborates with local artists, schools, and organizations to promote music education and appreciation.

Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available:

 

Usher

  • Greets patrons and assists them in finding their seats.
  • Hands out programs as needed.
  • Ensures aisles, walkways, and designated seating areas are unobstructed, clean, and safe.
  • Assists individuals with mobility issues into the venue, such as restrooms and concession areas.
  • Notifies the supervisor of any problems with facilities, supplies, and venue.
  • Excellent customer service skills required; must be friendly, personable, and professional.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication in English; bilingualism is an asset.
  • Must be able to stand, off and on, for 2-3 hours.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ticket Taker

  • Greet patrons as they enter the performance venue.
  • Check the tickets for appropriate seating.
  • Scan/identify fraudulent tickets.
  • Setup merchandise booth.
  • Give door checks to those needing to leave early but wish to return.

Concession

  • Take customers' orders.
  • Maintain the highest quality standards.
  • Accept payment from customers via a float provided by the PGSO or square machine if available.
  • Keep the assigned concession area clean, sanitary, and safe.
  • Work on an inventory stock list and inform the relevant staff or department for ordering.
  • Answer questions about concession stand location, prices of goods sold there, and other questions about tickets or other items sold.
  • Perform basic maintenance on machines and equipment, as needed.

Bartender (Chamber Social concerts only)

  • Check information for age-restricted items, such as alcoholic drinks and beverages (only for Chamber Concerts).
  • Accept payment from customers via a float provided by the PGSO or Square machine if available.
  • Keep the assigned concession area clean, sanitary, and safe.
  • Work on an inventory stock list and inform the relevant staff or department for ordering.
  • Answer questions about concession stand location, prices of goods sold there, and other questions about tickets or other items sold.
  • Perform basic maintenance on machines and equipment, as needed.

Transporter

  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and insurance.
  • Pick up and drop the musicians and other performers from the airport and from the venue to their hotel.
  • Provide a safe commute to the participants and maintain transport vehicles.
  • Can get complimentary tickets*

* subject to the discretion of the PGSO

Hosting

  • Provide a separate bedroom with proper hygiene and lighting. 
  • Provide meals, unless otherwise arranged.
  • Provide a safe ride during their stay.
  • Can get up to 2 complimentary tickets per musician hosted*

*subject to the discretion of the PGSO
