Corey Hardeman | Biography

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Corey Hardeman has drawn since she could first hold a pencil. Her formal education in biology and, later, in architectural drafting have both influenced her art making, which combines elements of traditional illustration and technical drawing with a love of tonal painting, an abiding interest in biomechanics and an eye for tension and movement.

She has shown her work in group and solo exhibitions across Canada, and was chosen as the inaugural recipient of the Prince George Arts Council’s Artist in Residence program in 2013. She was the Art Battle live painting provincial champion in 2013, and went on to compete nationally at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto that year.

Corey teaches lessons and workshops in oil and acrylic painting, both privately and through various arts organizations. She currently lives and paints in Vancouver, BC. She has also worked as a courtroom artist, and her drawings have been published in regional and national newspapers, including The Victoria Times Colonist, The Vancouver Sun and The Globe and Mail.

She considers her paintings to be documents rendered with oil paint, expressing her love of her surroundings as part of an ongoing conversation with the past, and is preoccupied with the creation of a sense of refuge from time. These commissioned pieces for the Prince George Symphony Orchestra were a joy to paint.
