PGSO Family Day Resounding Success

Saturday, November 15 saw the first of several FREE concerts for children and families in the 2008 – 2009 season.  Approximately 400 people from all around Prince George came down to Exploration place to see and hear the Prince George Symphony Orchestra play Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.  The intimate atmosphere provided by Exploration Place made for an ideal setting to engage children in symphonic music and, of course, provide a wonderful concert to be enjoyed by all.
Everyone who came with a ticket was given free admission to the Exploration Place museum to check out all the great educational, informative and entertaining exhibits, as well as the opportunity to participate in a raffle of Peter and the Wolf colouring books generously donated by The Violin Shop of Prince George.
Following the concert children delighted in the chance to experience the orchestra’s musical instruments first-hand during the “Instrument Zoo.”  Kids learned all about how each instrument sounds and even got to play instruments like timpani drums and cellos and have one-on-one demonstrations of the flute, oboe, bassoon and many others.
The first of three free Family Series concerts, Family Day at Exploration Place marked the earliest opportunity where the community at large can come and see what the PGSO has to offer at no charge.  Next up for the Family Series is Christmas with Santa and the PGSO, being held at the CNC Atrium on Saturday December 6, there will be a show at 11am and another at 2pm.  There will be Christmas music and Santa will be in attendance with goodie bags for the kids!
