Jordan Dyck has been an avid listener and writer of music since childhood. In high school his focus was popular music, recording a demo album with his rock band, and performing as an improvising cellist and bassist. At the University of Victoria, he quickly found his place in the Composition Department, studying with John Celona, and regularly taking part in countless seminars, workshops and performances. Since university, Jordan has arranged a number of orchestral, piano, and popular works for string quartet, including works by Bizet, Jobim, and Radiohead. In 2004, he wrote and performed incidental music for the locally written and produced play "In Their Nightgowns, Dancing" which won best incidental music at the Canada West Play Fest. Jordan has also found opportunity in Prince George arranging and composing jazz, traditional and serious music for choir, big band and orchestra, including commissions by: the Capriccio String Quartet, the Borealis Chamber Choir and Sinfonia Prince George.
Jordan’s compositional style is to write music with sparse orchestration and limited harmonic material, emphasizing gesture and phrasing, so as to communicate with clarity and purpose.
In addition to his composing, Jordan holds the position of Principal Cello with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra. He is the Artistic Director at the Prince George Conservatory of Music, and Director of the Sinfonia Orchestra and Borealis Chamber Choir. He leads the Prince George Youth Orchestra, the Conservatory School of Rock and the Capriccio Ensemble. He teaches cello, guitar, bass and music theory.
