Inter-Provincial Pigeon Race Fundraiser

On August 22nd, 2010, a prestigious race will celebrate the beginning of the 40th concert season for the PGSO. 40 specially trained pigeons will be liberated in Jasper, Alberta in a race ending at their lofts in Prince George. The prize is $1000 for the winner in each of two races.

How the Race Works

  • Two races - 20 birds each race
  • Birds are released in Jasper, Alberta
  • Pigeons typically fly 65 km/hr
  • Up to 145 km/hr with a strong tail wind
  • Pigeons fly home to their loft to have their finish time clocked by the Fancier
  • First bird home in their loft wins

How to Enter a Pigeon

  • Entry fee is $200
  • Rights include:
    • Naming your Avian Athlete
    • Certificate of ownership
    • A 1 in 20 chance of winning $1000 if your athlete finishes first
    • A ticket for you and one guest to attend the fly-in and BBQ
