Prince George Symphony Orchestra
The 2015-16 season marked Susan Klein's first year as Associate Conductor with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra. Susan received her Bachelor of Music in Orchestral Performance on Horn from the University of Alberta and continued her training in the Education department to receive her Teacher Certification. Susan has been part of the PGSO since 1989 when she and her husband, Principal Horn player, Laszlo Klein moved to Prince George from Alberta. For her first eight years with the PGSO, she was fortunate to play in the horn section. Now you will see Susan enjoying the musical experience within the percussion section.
Susan is known for her excellent band program at DP Todd Secondary School. In 1995 she was awarded the BC Music Educators Award and in 2001 she was a nominee for the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence. Her concert bands are consistently recognized at the national level. In May 2015 her senior concert band was awarded Gold at Nationals in Toronto.
Susan finds being part of the music making team in Prince George exciting as it keeps providing her with new challenges. Her most recent conducting highlights include the premiere of Simon Cole's Northern Suite, the MusicFest Canada 2015 competition with her Senior Band, and Judy Russell's 2015 production of The Sound of Music.
Susan would like to thank her husband Laszlo for his unending support and encouragement, her son Richard for always making her smile, and the PGSO musicians for continuing to share their incredible talents with our community.
