Out of Alba, Prince George’s premier Celtic band is a quintet that has been delighting audiences, both young and old, for the past 17 years. The members include Irishman Alan O’Reilly, Canadian Jim Sayle, American-Welsh Carolyn Kelly, and two Scots, Margaret and Jim Coyle. Together their music is punctuated by driving rhythm and harmony.
O'Reilly’s percussion talents led him to the bodhran (a traditional Celtic drum) that he plays with veracity and flare. Jim Sayle, a fiddler with enormous talent, brings sensitivity to the fiddle. Kelly’s whistle playing and composing brings virtuosity to the band akin to the Irish players of old. Margaret Coyle sings with the power and passion that the music deserves. Jim Coyle’s guitar and vocals brings energy, second to none, rounding out the group.
Largely a concert band, Out of Alba also perform at dances (ceilidhs), play in pubs, clubs, concert halls, theatres, house parties, a number of folk festivals throughout the province, and have even had a mosh pit going.
Out of Alba have enjoyed many collaborative performances with artists such as: Spirit of the West, Delhi 2 Dublin, The Watt School of Irish Dancing, Scottish folk legend, Dick Gaughan, BCs First Nation singer/songwriter, Art Napoleon, The Prince George Cantata singers, and Celtic Band Clann Cara.
They have recently released their 3rd CD “Nithi Sessions”
Their other albums are: Stepping Out (1997) and Mountains of Gold (2006).
