Ms. Pitcairn made her New York debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in 2000 with the New York String Orchestra and she appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Academy of Music.
The signature artist performs in partnership with one of the world’s most legendary instruments, the Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius of 1720, said to have inspired the Academy award-winning film The Red Violin. Ms. Pitcairn collaborated with Lionsgate Films for the The Red Violin DVD – Meridian Collection in special feature documentary interviews by Pitcairn and Oscar-winning composer John Corigliano.
She was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1973 into a closely knit musical family: her mother is a Juilliard-trained cellist. She began playing the violin at age three and made her debut with orchestra at 14. Her path led her to Los Angeles to study with preeminent violin professor Robert Lipsett at the University of Southern California. She has recently been named Artistic Director of the Luzerne Chamber Music Festival and is currently a member of the distinguished faculty at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, California, where she resides.
Ms. Pitcairn makes her Swedish recording debut in the premiere of the Tommie Haglund Concerto "Hymns to the Night" on the label Phono Suecia. Evan Mitchell
"One of the most fascinating aspects of symphonic music is its progression as a live art form over the course of time. While there is nothing wrong with letting the music wash over you, the deeper the connection you have, the more you'll enjoy and draw meaning from the performance, and you'll also be more open to the next orchestral experience."
Evan recently completed a three-year residency as the Assistant Conductor of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He served as official consultant to the Vancouver Olympic Committee and was Assistant Producer for the recording of the medal ceremony national anthems. He continues as Conductor and Percussionist at the National Academy Orchestra and has been the Assistant Conductor for the Kitchener-Waterloo Youth Symphony. Evan has taught extensively with student musicians of all ages and is often called upon as an adjudicator, coach, and repeat guest speaker. He is an award-winning percussionist both at home and abroad.
Evan first earned his Bachelor of Music in Performance Percussion from Wilfrid Laurier University and then his Masters in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Toronto.
